New data for Index of Core Industries: 2020 July: 119.9 2019 July: 132.6 YoY growth: -9.6%  Details: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry Office of Economic Adviser (OEA), Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), reports a monthly index, ICI, "Index of Eight Core Industries (Base: 2011-12=100)".  "The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27 per cent of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP)." June 2020 IIP = 107.8 June 2019 IIP = 129.3 In view of the preventive measures and announcement of nation-wide lockdown by the Government to contain spread of COVID-19 pandemic, a large number of the industrial sector establishments were not operating from the end of March, 2020 onwards. This has had an impact on the items being produced by the establishments during the period of lockdown. With the lifting of restrictions in the subsequent periods, industrial activity is resuming. The Index for the month of June 2020 stands at 107.8 as compared to 53.6 and 89.5 for April 2020and May 2020. {Wiki} The level of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is an abstract number, the magnitude of which represents the status of production in the industrial sector for a given period of time as compared to a reference period of time.
